Self love is about more than self-care, although that is one important aspect of it.
Self love is about being fiercely authentic, focusing on your gifts and strengths, having compassion and forgiveness for your humanness, being your own mentor and friend, doing the inner work to blossom into the highest version of you, and giving yourself permission to do the things you desire to do.
Self love is not selfish – you are the person you spend the most time with, so the relationship you have with yourself sets the tone for all of your other relationships, your daily habits and actions, and creating your goals and dreams.
From a manifestation perspective, the world is a reflection of us – our beliefs and vibration. So we cannot wait for other people to validate or approve of us – we have to own our worth and feel amazing, in order for the world to reflect that. Self love is magnetic.
You are not your self-judgmental thoughts – you are the observer of your thoughts. Your true nature is your soul, spirit or intuition. This part of you is powerful, creative, wise, loving, worthy and enough. You may have touched base with this part of you when you were meditating, watching a sunrise or sunset, giving advice to a friend, or doing something you love like travel, art or writing.
You don’t have to prove or earn your worth by ticking off a certain number of external achievements, because your worth is innate. You are the Universe experiencing itself as a human being for a little while – you are divine in origin and made of stardust. You can however be your own mentor and friend as you follow your purpose, passions and dreams.
There is a great quote from the book Brings Of The Dawn on the importance of self love:
When you believe in and love yourself, everything starts to go your way. Make the commitment to believe you deserve love. No one else has to love you. You are not here to go around gathering love from other people to convince yourself that you are worth it. By committing to love yourself and making this commitment the number-one step from which you operate every day, everything falls into place. You become whole and complete.
